Education for Sustainability: Bitesize Learning Session

Duration: 1 hour (online)

Facilitator: Education for Sustainability, CELT Lecturers

Course Content:

This short session provides an overview of education for sustainability, what it means at the University of Galway, and what it means to you and for your work. We will go through various ideas and definitions of what sustainability is and how this can vary between people; between organisations; and between different disciplines. The session will encourage discussion of your own views and practices of sustainability, the climate and nature crisis and the significance of higher education in providing students with the skills and knowledges they need to deal with interconnected global problems.

Objectives:

  • to provide a space for all teaching related and student facing staff to find out about education for sustainability at the University of Galway and evaluate how this relates to their own work/practice;
  • to provide an opportunity for participants to voice their views and ask questions about education for sustainability;
  • to foster both a 'whole of student' and also a 'whole of staff' approach to education for sustainability by creating a collective space for discussion and activation.

Target audience: This course is tailored to all teaching, teaching related and student-facing staff - anyone who works with and for students at the University of Galway.
